There are plenty of stories humans invent. And most of them make, of course, a lot of sense as we are benefiting from them.
This idea (hic!, a story again…) is nicely described in the book sapiens of harari.
What he describes can also be extended to e.g. marriages. People have, hopefully, the quite same idea/story how a marriage shall look like, and then act accordingly. In some cases it works out well, at least for some time. And during that time, both partners are benefiting from that relationship.
Also our justice system is an idea/story. We believe, that there is one person, that knows all the rules and makes a fair judgement on a specific case. And that everything that can happen is covered by these rules.
In former times these rules were replaced with experience and wisdom of the wise elderly people.
