The New Ten Commandments

What can be the new generic rules of everybody? Assuming that the ten commandments from the old testament are outdated.

This is also based on the idea, that we don’t need a specific religion that these commandments are based on.

  1. Do not do to others what you would not want them to do to you.
  2. In all things, strive to cause no harm.
  3. Treat your fellow human beings, your fellow living things, and the world in general with love, honesty, faithfulness and respect.
  4. Do not overlook evil or shrink from administering justice, but always be ready to forgive wrongdoing freely admitted and honestly regretted.
  5. Live life with a sense of joy and wonder.
  6. Always seek to be learning something new.
  7. Test all things; always check your ideas against the facts, and be ready to discard even a cherished belief if it does not conform to them.
  8. Never seek to censor or cut yourself off from dissent; always respect the right of others to disagree with you.
  9. Form independent opinions on the basis of your own reason and experience; do not allow yourself to be led blindly by others.
  10. Question everything

„Religion is considered true to the common man, wrong to the wise man, and is useful for the rulers“

Values, personal, company wide, and from societies

Personal values

Have you ever thought how weird it is that other people rank the same things differently than you? It goes back that we are all shaped by our environment where/how we have grown up and what we experienced during our whole life.

Richard Barrett found a method to measure  such values where everything is based on, and is claiming that everything you can measure, you can also enhance, because you can define some measures (hic!) to get better.

These values can be defined on a personal basis. You can check it by yourself, with an easy test for free at the Value center, takes only 5 minutes. You will get an email a few minutes later with your personal results.

It’s also fun to compare and discuss your values with friends.

Or a company could ask a job applicant to perform such a personal value assessment and discuss it then in the interview.

Company values

Then you can also use the same approach for companies, asking a representative group of employees about their values and also about the values they want to reach within that company e.g. till next year. Define measures with them to enhance, e.g. reduce the so called entropie, and check next time again if something has changed.

Values of societies

And going further on, and this is the most interesting part for me, you can use the same approach also for societies. Just check out the surveys they already have made so far for specific countries at the Community value center, a PDF is downloadable at the Valuecenter Ressources.

Check if your country is included…
